Aspen University is a nationally-accredited, distance learning university located in the United States that was established in 1987. Aspen offers degrees in technology management, information systems, business, project management, addictions counseling, nursing, and criminal justice. Aspen University grew from the International Academy created in the 1960s. During the next two decades, the academy provided education in information management. In 1987, the Academy established the Information Institute focused on emerging information technologies.
Aspen University is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC). The Accrediting Commission of the Distance Education and Training Council is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency, and is a recognized member of the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
Aspen University's master of science in nursing (MSN) program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). CCNE ensures the quality and integrity of baccalaureate and graduate education programs preparing effective nurses. Aspen University’s bachelors & masters degrees in Psychology of Addiction and Counseling are approved by the National Association for Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Counselors (NAADAC). NAADAC approved education providers offer training and education for those who are seeking to become certified and those who want to maintain their certification.
Additionally, the Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE) has authorized Aspen University to operate in Colorado as a private university under the Degree Authorization Act. The Colorado Commission on Higher Education is the state policy and coordinating board for Colorado's higher education system.
